DAVAO CITY. Davao Holcim Employees and Workers Union (DAHEWU) withdrew the Notice of Strike they filed against the management of Holcim Phils. Davao Plant last November 20, this year, before the Regional Conciliation and Mediation Branch XI.
“Because of the timely and committed intervention of this Office, the occurrence of an actual strike was averted,” said OIC Director Ma. Theresa Francisco as she lauded NCMB Executive Director IV Reynaldo Ubaldo.
The decision of the union is in view of the Order issued by Voluntary Arbitrator Atty. Rolando P. Arañas, which granted DAHEWU’s Motion for Execution of VA Case docketed as AC-325-RBXI-03-01-05-2014 regarding the erroneous engagement of HMO by Holcim.
“We would to thank OIC-Director Ma. Theresa Francisco for exerting the best efforts to try to find a peaceful and agreeable solution to our labor dispute, albeit ultimately no settlement was reached by both parties ultimately,” Mr. Francisco Guitguitin as he commended NCMB XI OIC-Director.
“We hope that you continue with your zealous adherence to your Office’s mandate of mainstreaming and facilitating cooperative and non-adversarial schemes of alternative dispute resolutions (ADR) in order to sustain harmonious labor and management relations,” Mr. Guitguitin added.
DAHEWU filed Notice of Strike case docketed as NCMB-RBXI-NS-10-006-14 (DDS) last October 29, this year on the ground of unfair labor practice (ULP) for Gross Violation of the CBA specifically on the economic provision involving hospitalization and medicine benefits.
On November 14, the union conducted strike vote referendum and submitted the official strike vote results in this Office on November 17 in favor of a strike.
Davao Employees and Workers Union (DAHEWU) is affiliated with Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL) and Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Proresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO), which represents 120 rank-and-file employees and was led by Mr. Francisco Guitguitin, union president.
On the other hand, Holcim Phils. Davao Plant, which engaged in cement manufacturing, is located at Bo. Ilang, Tibungco, this city. It has a total employment of 853 and was represented by Ms. Zita Balogo, plant manager; Ms. Maritess Zaballero, HR manager; Atty. Vincent Juan, legal counsel of the company.#dmg1
