Davao City – the Branch held its own closed-door participation to the Kadayawan Festival last August 20, 2020 following its annual celebration on the 3rd week of August.

The Kadayawan Festival of Davao City is a celebration of life, bountiful harvests, and the rich culture of Dabawenyos. Since the past years, the city has been going all out in the organization of street dancing and flower parades. Numerous schools, social enterprises and private companies have been competing in the tribal dances contests. Moreover, the city honored and awarded the creators of prestigious and unique flower carts. Citizens watched this celebrations either through the television or in person by going out in the streets. Various food stall sold their food along the streets and fruits and vegetables surged the market bringing the price of these delectable goods down.

However, in 2020, these street celebrations were not held due to the pandemic. Despite the quarantine restrictions, the city organized non-contact activities to celebrate the Kadayawan Festival such as music video competition, Tiktok contests, and a virtual tour to the Museo Dabawenyo.

The RCMBXI team celebrated the Kadayawan Celebration in its own small way by serving fruits that are in season such as Lanzones and Rambotan along with other homemade snacks. Gary Bonghanoy
