NCMB-RBXI headed by OIC-Director Aerrine Marie R. Reyes sent one delegate to the first ever National Information Convention at the SMX Convention Center on February 19-21, 2018.  This event with the theme “Spurring Development and Empowering Communities through Information” was spearheaded by Philippine Information Agency.

Sheila A. Rivera represented the office as designated Labor Information Officer together with Ms. Catherine Amigo of RCMB XII.

“I am very grateful for OIC-Director Aerrine Marie R. Reyes for sending me to this very historic event.  This made me realize my social responsibility as designated LIO in the branch.  I am inspired by the message that my role as information communicator can bring about change to other people”.

The three day event was filled with learning and excitement as honourable Resource Speakers coming from NGAs, PCOO, private companies among others shared their enormous knowledge and experience in their respective topics as well as their advocacy for the countrymen.  Some of the Resource Speakers were Secretaries from NGAs, Assistant Secretary, Undersecretary, CEO, Columnist and Journalist among others.

There were more or less 1,800 participants from across the country as declared on the third day of the event.

“This event enhanced not only my knowledge but encouraged me to be a responsible communicator down to the grassroots level.”

As what Sec. Andanar in his reading of the keynote message of President Rodrigo Duterte, “Words are the most effective instruments we can use to confront the fractured world we inherited”.

The event basically aims to capacitate both government and private sector communicators towards development communication, hence, encourage us to participate towards nation-building through responsible communication.

The Philippine Development Plan from 2017-2022 and Ambisyon 2040 were presented as well.  One of which is accelerating strategic infrastructure development or the “Build, build, build” program as their top priority.

On the second day, February 20, 2018, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) officially launched the DU30 mobile application.  This serves as a link between government and the Filipino citizens worldwide.

Hon. Martin Andanar, Secretary of PCOO said the  DU30 App is the Filipinos link for updates on government plans, activities and speeches of President Rodrigo Duterte via the RTVM, Radyo Pilipinas, and the PCOO’s DU30 on Duty.

The mobile application is one of the initiatives of the PCOO, believing that mobile technology is one of the best ways to fight disinformation, misinformation and fake news.

The DU30 App is developed by iBayad Online Ventures Inc. It is downloadable on Google Play and the Apple Store for IPhone users.

Paolo Saycon, Chief Operating Officer of iBayad, said the DU30 App is Andanar’s brainchild. Initially, it has links with PTV and Radyo Pilipinas. Other agencies within the scope of PCOO will also be added.

On the third day, February 21, 2018, we as communicators, pledged and were made to read the Declaration of Commitment to Responsible Communication together with Sec. Andanar.  Sheila A. Rivera
