Conduct GAD Seminar in Barangay Lizada
Davao City – “We just successfully conducted another milestone in reaching out not only to our regular clienteles but at the barangay level as well as far as Gender and Development is concerned,” OIC-Director of NCMB-RBXI Aerrine Marie R. Reyes announced today.
NCMB-RBXI in partnership with the Davao Accredited Voluntary Arbitrators Organization (DAVAO), Inc. under its Speakers Bureau and in coordination with the local barangay conducted another advocacy seminar entitled “Seminar on Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (R.A. 9262) and the Kasambahay Law (R.A. 10361) yesterday, October 29, 2018 at the Barangay Hall of Barangay Lizada, Toril, Davao City.
98 residents gathered around in this important activity. Mostly were from New Lizada Village while others were coming from Sitio Dacudao, Malatabis, Tambacan, Sodaco, Punong, Purok 4 Riverside, Ferriols, Curvada, Babisa, Lizada Beach and Lawis.
“Barangay Captain Remegio C. Licera without doubt responded right away the request of the branch to conduct a half-day learning session related to GAD program,” GAD Focal Sheila A. Rivera stated.
“It is timely because we will also have our Women’s Day on October 29, 2018,” Neneth, BCW Chairperson said during our visit.
Atty. Ronieto “Nono” B. Bata, one of the officers of DAVAO, Inc. and an Accredited Voluntary Arbitrator of NCMB-RBXI was the Resource Speaker who generously shared the laws involving women and children. He discussed about Anti-VAWC, some provisions on Magna Carta of Women (R.A. 9710), Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 (R.A. 9208), Anti-photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 (R.A. 9975), Children’s Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015 (R.A. 10666) among others.
“I prefer to include other laws involving women and children since the community does not only need to be educated on Anti-VAWC. There are other laws that need to be disseminated, especially for the children,” Atty. Bata said.
OIC-Director Reyes was the Resource Speaker on Kasambahay Law. She presented who were covered under the law, the mandatory benefits of the kasambahay as well as the grounds for terminating a contract by both the kasambahay and the employer.
This activity is a continuation of the advocacy of NCMB-RBXI and the Speakers Bureau of DAVAO, Inc., one of the social partners of this branch to raise awareness on women’s rights to the community. This undertaking began in 2012 in Barangay Panacan through Brgy. Captain Arnold Apostol. The second one was held in Baliok under Brgy. Captain Antonio Tinasas. The third one was in Angliongto under Brgy. Captain JJ Cesar J. Bongcawil. Atty. Rosalina L. Montejo, one of the VAs of NCMB was the Resource Speaker for these three (3) events.
