Labor Dispute at Pilipino Cable Corp. is finally settled

 

The labor dispute between Pilipino Cable Corp. Davao Employees Union-SENTRO and Pilipino Cable Corporation and its Subsidiaries:  Davao Cableworld Network, Inc. and Sun Cable System was finally settled on March 16, 2018, OIC-Director of RCMB XI Aerrine Marie R. Reyes announced.

On February 6, 2018, the union requested the intervention of the Office through the filing of Notice of Strike on the ground of bargaining deadlock.

On February 21, 2018, this office validated deadlocked issues both political and economic.   During the validation, the union identified priority and non-priority economic items.  The union identified most priority economic items as salary increase, union assistance, other fringe benefits, eyeglasses, educational assistance, service award, COLA and signing bonus.

On March 6, 2018, conciliation conference continued with exchange of negotiations.  The management presented the comparison of cost it will entail between the proposal of the union as well as from the management.

However, on March 7, 2018, the union conducted a strike vote balloting and submitted the result to the office on March 12, 2018 with 29 votes for yes out of 32 total union members.

Nevertheless, Conciliator-Mediator Oliver C. Jao and OIC-Director Aerrine Marie R. Reyes conducted marathon conciliation conferences on March 13-16, 2018.

After continued discussion on the issues and several joint and separate meetings, Con-med Jao and OIC-Dir. Reyes and both parties finally settled the case on a non-working holiday during the Araw ng Dabaw on March 16, 2018.

“Our marathon conciliation conferences for four days including holiday and of course because of the sacrifices and efforts of both the union and management finally paid off” said OIC-Dir. Reyes.

Estimated total economic benefit is P3.2 million.

The union, Pilipino Cable Corporation Davao Employees Union is an affiliate of Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO) and the sole and exclusive bargaining agent (SEBA) of the company which represents the thirty (30) union members of the company.  It is headed by Mr. Gregorio Soledad, Jr., Union President.  Sheila A.
